MARK RICHTER: A civil rights case is when someone is damaged or injured as a result of a constitutional violation.

JEFFREY R. LESSIN: For example, when a police officer uses excessive force against a citizen.

MARK RICHTER: Often, people have a misunderstanding that every time they're dissatisfied with the police, there must be a civil rights case. And that's not true. And we support the police in what they do.

JEFFREY R. LESSIN: However, just like there are bad lawyers and bad doctors, there are police officers that are bad. And the only people that are really able to police the police officers, believe it or not, are the citizens that are wronged. And that's what we do. We try and right a wrong. Preparation in a case is really the key to the case. We are very, very careful to do everything that needs to be done because we view every case as if it's going to go to trial.

MARK RICHTER: If we don't prepare to go to court, then we don't do the things that have to be done to maximize the recovery for our clients.
